As part of Belfast 2024, Wild Belfast are delivering a series of living murals through our 'Safari in the City' project across the Belfast City Council area. The initiative combines art and wildlife conservation aiming to raise awareness and inspire action.
Wild Belfast conservationists collaborated with local artists and communities to create inspiring, large-scale murals depicting local endangered species and their natural habitats. Each mural highlights the beauty and importance of wildlife through the art, showcases the different methods to help protect it through the installation of conservation features, and reflects the communities' identities and aspirations within which the wall is located.
Throughout the process, workshops and dialogue sessions were held, providing opportunities for communities to learn about local wildlife and how they can contribute to conservation efforts. These dialogues informed the murals' themes and imagery, ensuring it resonates deeply with the species of conservation concerns.
The resulting murals serve as powerful visual reminders of the need to protect our natural world and the ways to do so, thus fostering a deeper connection between Belfast's communities and its environment.
